Rain doesn't dampen Relay for Life's stride

Joining forces Friday night at Jackson County's Relay for Life were (at left) Eliza Hooper, 91, the oldest walker, and McKae Bumgarner, the youngest at 17 months. The Tuckasegee Stompers (above) with their "Give Cancer the Boot" banner won first place in the banner competition. Relay organizers have collected more than $42,000 so far, but all donations are not in yet, said Relay Chair Mary Moody Bumgarner. The Relay for Life is the signature event of the American Cancer Society.
