Ravensford hearings set |
|
Public comment on an exchange of property proposed to include the 168-acre Ravensford Tract in Great Smoky Mountains National Park will be held in Cherokee Tuesday, Feb. 12. Located at the park's southern boundary near Cherokee, the tract, also known as Floyd Bottoms, can be seen from the Blue Ridge Parkway intersection. Tribal officials, who hope to build schools on the land, also point out that the section would connect two areas of the reservation currently bisected by park land. |
| In exchange for Ravensford, the Cherokee would acquire and give the Department of the Interior about 218 acres located next to the Waterrock Knob Visitor Center on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The first of three public meetings on the proposed land exchange will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, at Cherokee Elementary School.
