A crew from the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad is installing 300 new ties on the track by GSMRR headquarters off Front Street in Dillsboro. Several merchants, including Susan Leveille of Oaks Gallery, have expressed concern with the delayed reopening of Webster Street. Original estimates called for the street to be closed for two weeks; however, heavy rains delayed the project, now in its fourth week. Brian Carnes with GSMRR said all ties should be in place within a week, then contractors will have to repave the track area at Webster Street. Herald photo by Rose Hooper
