"The Pumpkin Patch" at Sylva First United Methodist Church is open for business and will remain so through Wednesday, Oct. 31. Picking the perfect pumpkins are, from left, (front) Tristen Queen, Mary Deitz, Caleb Raleigh, Evan Clarke and Brianna Franks, while volunteers (background) Joe Henry, Swen Swenson and Steve Hite stand ready to assist them with their purchases. Proceeds from pumpkin sales will be used to fund the youth Appalachia Service Project and other local mission programs, said Linda Haggard, director of youth ministries at the church. "You probably will be able to find a cheaper pumpkin somewhere else, but you won't find a better pumpkin," she said. Pumpkin prices start as low as 50 cents and increase according to size. For more information, call Haggard at 586-2358.
