Construction crews are rapidly winding up renovations at Sylva's Roscoe Poteet Pool, and the facility is expected to open Saturday, June 30, if things go well, said project engineer Victor Lofquist of W.K. Dickson in Asheville. Town leaders committed almost $700,000 to pay for pool improvements and repairs. The project upgraded and enlarged Sylva's 31-year-old pool, added a swimming lane and refurbished the dressing rooms. New features added during the construction include the play fountains pictured above, which should add excitement to the wading pool. "Tumble-buckets," left, will dump water, while the mushroom-shaped "Raindrop" will provide a cascade of water off its dome, Lofquist said. -Herald photo by Virginia Culp
