Puckering for piggy

piggy

As top votegetter in the Family Resource Center's "Kiss The Pig" contest, Sonja Haynes of Macon Bank kissed this Tuckasegee porker during festivities Saturday at the FRC in Webster. Haynes raised $1,695, beating out the runner-up, Jackson County Sheriff Jim Cruzan who raised $1,255. Smoky Mountain High School Principal Kenny Nicholson, who maintained a strong showing throughout the race, said, "This should teach us not to get in a financial race with somebody from a bank!" The low vote-getter was not present at Saturday's festivities to hold the pig, which several children thought "looked like a dalmatian" because of its black spots. Family Resource Center Director Linda McElroy said she was "extremely pleased" with the fund-raising event, which netted $6,113 for the center's programs. - Herald photo by Rose Hooper, who came in sixth out of the 20 contestants
