Rainbow

The spectacular rainbow that spread its arc across Jackson Paper Manufacturing Co. Friday afternoon was captured on film by Nick Breedlove of Sylva. A junior at Smoky Mountain High, Breedlove was a first-place winner in The Sylva Herald's 2000 "Mountain Spring" photography contest. Area photographers will soon be invited to submit photographs to the newspaper's annual contest. Rules and other information will be announced in the March 1 edition of The Sylva Herald, and entries will be displayed during downtown's April 28 Greening Up the Mountains Festival. Breedlove's photo has historical significance as well. The buildings in the picture were constructed by Mead Corp., which ceased Sylva operations in 1974. The plant was idle until Jackson Paper began manufacturing brown paper from recycled cardboard in late 1982.
