Forum set to hear women's concerns |
|
N.C. Equity, in partnership with REACH, will host a forum to hear the concerns of women in Jackson County Tuesday, Oct. 10, from 4 to 6 p.m.
N.C. Equity is holding "listening" sessions across the state to hear the concerns and thoughts of North Carolina's women and community leaders on critical issues they face. N.C. Equity acts as a voice for women in helping to set the legislative agenda in Raleigh. The motto of N.C. Equity is "Economic Strength for Women and Families." The two-hour forum will include information about the role that N.C. Equity plays, a review of what other women across the state are saying concerns them, and a chance for Jackson County women to add their voices and prioritize issues. N.C. Equity will take the information gathered and present it during upcoming sessions to legislators with recommendations for action. Some of the issues to be addressed include equal pay for equal work, women's access to good-paying jobs, working mothers and child care and how welfare reform impacts families. The forum will be held at the Jackson County Family Resource Center in Webster. Pizza will be served and child care provided. For additional information, contact Elizabeth Worley at 631-4488. |
