"The end of an era."
That's what Tuckaseigee Water and Sewer Authority members called Tuesday night's resignation of J.C. Alexander, chairman of the authority since its incorporation June 1992. He and his wife, Sue, are moving to Granville County.
Alexander told the board he was "proud to have been a part of TWSA," an authority he said is necessary for "civilized growth." "As difficult as it was at times, I still enjoyed it," said Alexander, whose resignation is effective June 30. "Where we are building our house in the southeastern part of (Granville) county, they are facing critical needs, and they need a compact like we have here." Vice Chair Mickey Luker will assume the chairmanship and a new vice chair will be elected. Also Tuesday, two new board members were sworn in. Chuck Wooten replaced Joe Carter as Western Carolina University's representative, and Bob Beck replaced Alvin Stiles as one of Sylva's appointees. Following a public hearing at which there was no public comment, the TWSA board adopted a balanced budget of $2,166,384 for fiscal year 2001-02 beginning July 1. Water revenue includes water service, $718,672; reconnect fee, $2,500; and impact fee, $28,500, for a total of $749,672. |
