Work under way on Hospital Road

Hospital-Road

Construction on a new section of Hospital Road is proceeding this week as crews fill and grade the area between Sylva Medical Center and Business 23. WestCare Health System expansion plans announced in July include the rerouting of the road so it intersects with Business 23 near WestCare's EMS base where a traffic signal will be installed, said WestCare spokesman Brian Thomas. Harris Regional Hospital's existing entrance from Business 23 will become a service drive, and the new portion of Hospital Road will merge with existing Hospital Road between HRH and Sylva Medical Center. Once the road is relocated, construction will begin on a planned 24,000-square-foot hospital addition to house ambulatory services. Construction is also under way on a medical office building, which is expected to be completed in January, in HRH's upper employee parking lot.
