Members of the Hendersonville Mounted Patrol carried the colors during the Mountain Mule and Horse Parade Sunday afternoon, Oct. 6. While the number of participants was down from last year, spectator numbers were up, said organizer Maurice Moody, who said plans are under way for next year's event, again to be held the first Sunday in October. "I think the participants had a good time," he said. The parade had a scary moment when one of the riders, 15-year-old Matthew Moore of Dillsboro, was thrown from his horse near O'Malley's. He was treated and released at Harris Regional Hospital, according to Police Chief Jeff Jamison. "Apparently, the horse just spooked," Jamison said. "He had been having problems with the horse." Jamison said Moore told him traffic had backed up at O'Malley's and the horse reared up and threw him off. - Herald photo by Rose Hooper
