National winners

Leanne Woodard and Lauren Allen

Three Smoky Mountain students brought home national awards from the annual Health Occupations Students of America competition held recently in Atlanta. Award winners include recent graduates Leanne Woodard, right, who took the gold medal in First Aid/Rescue Breathing, and Lauren Allen, who placed eighth in Veterinary Assisting. Smoky Mountain's third winner is Michael Ayers, a rising junior, who was fourth in Sports Medicine. SMHS health occupations teachers Frances Hess and Linda Fisher sponsor the local HOSA club.
