Built for county's sesquicentennial |
|
Deborah Bardo's replica is so realistic, it looks like movers transplanted the Hooper House in front of The Sylva Herald. Bardo spent a year and a half building this scale model, which includes 4,200 hand-painted roofing shingles. The stained-glass window looks so authentic because Bardo took a picture of the original stained glass, scanned it in her computer, then printed it out on a transparency. "I wanted to have the house ready for the county's sesquicentennial celebration," said Bardo, president of the Friends of the Library. |
| "The Hooper House, built in 1905, is such an important part of our heritage. I was really glad when the effort was spearheaded to preserve it." After serving as the homeplace and office for Dr. D.D. Hooper, the house was used by Friends of the Library to store books for their annual book sales. Bardo's replica now appears in the display window of the Friends of the Library Used Book Store on Main Street. She invites everyone to stop by and see it during the sesquicentennial festivities and "check out our book selection while you are here." - Herald photo by Marina Robbins |
