County's two high schools set graduation exercises

Blue Ridge School will go first, with 15 expected to graduate Friday, May 24, at 7 p.m. in the school gym.

Smoky Mountain High has 208 seniors expected to graduate at 7 p.m. Monday, May 27, at Western Carolina Universityıs Ramsey Center.

Blue Ridge

Student speakers will include Lauren Moody, valedictorian; Sheena Bentley, salutatorian; and Jenny Holmes, senior class president.

William E. Dillard American Legion Post 104 will present the colors, and Autumn LeBlanc, student council officer will lead the Pledge of Allegiance.

Tommy Wrenn, youth leader at the Cashiers Church of God, will deliver the invocation and the benediction.

Principal Lib Balcerek will give the welcome. The charge to the graduates will be from Assistant Principal Roy Douthitt.

Musical presentations will include "There You'll Be" by the senior class and "I Hope You Dance" by the Blue Ridge High School Singers. Barbie Holden will play the processional and recessional. Scholarships will be presented by counselor Shirley Maxon.

Diplomas will be awarded by Balcerek, Douthitt and McCary with Balcerek conferring degrees.

Retiring agriculture teacher Bill Fouts will present the commencement address. He will be introduced by Kai Oliver-Kurtin, senior class photographer.

Student speakers will include Holly Henderson, valedictorian; Cari Heckert, salutatorian; and Keely Moll, senior class president. Moll will also deliver the invocation. The welcome will be from Principal Kenny Nicholson, and Oliver-Kurtin will give the slide show presentation.

Tinnie Salzano, assistant principal, and Mary Anne Barker, instructional specialist, will present the candidates for graduation. Diplomas will be awarded by Nicholson and McCary, and Nicholson will issue the declaration of graduates.
