Horse march Three-year-old Charlie Stafford, son of Lori and Shaw Stafford of Sylva, got a firsthand look at one of the Sylva Fire Department's four pumper trucks courtesy of Capt. Harold Norman during Saturday's annual open house. Community members were invited to stop by the firehouse for fire safety information, refreshments, balloons and a look at the fire department's equipment and trucks. Sparky the Fire Dog and Smokey Bear were on hand most of the day, and visitors could tour a demonstration smokehouse. - Herald photo by Lynn Hotaling
