A Saturday night fire caused smoke and heat damage to a farmhouse in Greens Creek community.
Savannah firefighters found a second-story bedroom on fire when they reached the Lawrence Coleman residence at 8 Tea Rose Lane at 7:45 p.m., said Chief Darrell Woodard. The fire was contained to one bedroom of the older frame structure, Woodard said. Firefighters remained on the scene for about 2 hours. "There was not a lot of flame damage, but there was smoke and heat damage," Woodard said Tuesday. In addition, there was some water damage, Woodard said. A malfunctioning television set is believed to have caused the fire, Woodard said, with electrical storms earlier in the week a possible contributing factor. "The television was on and the fire started in that vicinity," Woodard said. Family members were alerted by a smoke detector and safely exited the home, Woodard said. The first volunteer firefighters on the scene assisted the family in the removal of personal property from the house. Savannah firefighters received mutual aid from Sylva and Cullowhee fire departments and from WestCare EMS, Woodard said.
