The pace of filing for offices in Jackson County slowed considerably in the past week.
As of 9 a.m. Wednesday, only three candidates had tossed their hats into the ring since last week's paper was published. Curtis Lambert, who is seeking the office of sheriff, is the lone Republican to have filed for any office. Frank Burrell, a former school superintendent, has filed as a Democrat for the District 2 seat on the county board of commissioners. Conrad Burrell has announced he will not seek re-election from District 2. Nathan Moss has filed for the District 5 board of education seat. That race is non-partisan. With filing set to close at noon Friday, March 1, no candidates have filed to run from District 3 for the board of commissioners or District 4 for the school board. So far, the sheriff's race is the only one to draw more than one candidate.
