The Economic Development Commission of Jackson County approved its operating budget of $527,095 for fiscal year 2001-02 at its meeting this month.
Projected revenue include $150,000 from Jackson County; $38,016 from the town of Sylva; $2,805 from Dillsboro; $500 from Webster; $500 from the Village of Forest Hills; and $12,000 in investment income. Expenditures include site acquisition/development, $474,020; grant program, $25,000; industry appreciation, $3,000; marketing, $2,500; travel/professional development, $2,000; periodicals/books/subscriptions, $1,000; office supplies and materials, $500; telephone/fax/Internet, $200; postage and shipping, $125; and printing and copying, $250. Some $1 million from the federal Economic Development Administration for site development/building fund included in last year's budget is still available, EDC Executive Director Tom McClure said, although it is not included in this year's operating budget. McClure also talked about restructuring EDC's format into two committees job creation and retention, and product development. The first, to be chaired by Mark Leonard, will include Gene Couch, Jay Coward, Linda Rogers and Ron Stephens. Brenda Oliver will chair the second committee, which will include Herb Nolan, Wendy Cagle and Frank Wilkey. |
