From one established locally in 1927 to another that has only been here two years, manufacturers responded to a recent survey by the Jackson County Economic Development Commission.
Existing Industry Committee Chair Mark Leonard presented the survey results at Monday night's EDC meeting. In response to the question of whether they export products to other states, 75 percent said "yes," while 25 percent said "no." As for outside the United States, it was an even split - 50 percent "yes," 50 percent "no." Number of employees range from five to 130, and amount of annual sales range from $33,000 to $40 million. Square footage of building space range from 21,000 to 210,000. The survey asked, "How can the Jackson County Economic Development Commission better serve your company's needs?" Responses included: - "Help with public relations efforts to create awareness and attract employees." - "Communications services, including telephone and Internet services." - "It appears that the EDC is in the development business rather than in the business to help others with development and promotion." - "Paving lots, work inside of building." - "Promote sound forest management of our private and national forests within our region." Of those surveyed, 75 percent said they were satisfied with the EDC, while 12.5 percent said they were very satisfied and 12.5 percent did not know. "We'll take these responses and plan future programs around them," Leonard told the board. The EDC's Business and Industry Luncheon is tentatively planned for May 30 at the Jarrett House. Also at the meeting, the EDC endorsed the Clean Smokestacks Bill pending in the state legislature. |
