Dogs invade 'Cat country'

Lab Some 86 dogs, representing various breeds from Georgia, Tennessee, South Carolina and North Carolina competed in the Breed and Obedience Match July 21 at Western Carolina University's Ramsey Center. Sanctioned by the American Kennel Club, the event was hosted by the Western Carolina Dog Fanciers Association. Club president Margo Gray said this was the first time such an event had been hosted in Jackson County and due to its success, a show is planned for July 2003 at the Ramsey Center. Awards were presented for best champion and best veteran, as well as first-through-fourth-place finishers and best of breed in each class. - Herald photos by Kelly Timco
