Dillsboro's 2003-04 budget proposes additional 4 cents for fire protection

The town of Dillsboro has proposed an additional 4 cents tax for the upcoming fiscal year to pay for fire protection.

Added to the current 30 cents per $100 valuation, the new tax rate would be 34 cents per $100 valuation.

The additional 4 cents is expected to generate a revenue of $9,200 for fire protection, said Jim Cochran, chairman of the finance committee.

A public hearing on the proposed $126,078 balanced budget is set for 6 p.m. Thursday, June 19, at town hall.

Anticipated revenues include $68,488 from ad valorem taxes, $25,000 from local option sales tax, $6,500 Powell bill allocation, $4,400 utility franchise fees, $4,400 telecommunications sales tax, $2,250 privilege tax and $2,500 interest on investments.

Anticipated expenses include governing body, $26,700; administrative, $25,495; streets and sidewalks, $29,025; non-departmental, $11,608; parks and recreation, $10,700; public safety, $10,200; Powell bill, $6,500; town hall, $4,850; and tax collection fees, $1,000.
