Dillsboro considers rezoning for RVsBy Rose HooperThe Dillsboro planning board is considering recommending a zoning change for property located near the Western Builders office and the new Best Western Motel. The main reason for the change - from industrial use to recreational overlay use - would be to allow for an RV park, according to planning board Chairman Mary Bumgarner. The planning board has discussed the issue in detail, Bumgarner reported during the Dillsboro Town Board meeting Monday. Those discussions included a strict definition for a motor coach, which would rule out variations on RVs, such as revamped school buses, Bumgarner said. Length of stay was also discussed, with the planning board setting a limit of 30 days within a calendar year. "We are still in the review process," Bumgarner said. Before the property can be rezoned, all adjoining property owners must be notified and a public hearing must be held, she said. In other business, town board members voted to increase several fee schedules Monday. Increases include sign permits from $20 to $25, banner permits from $15 to $20 (waived for non-profit organizations) and zoning applications from $30 to $40. Citations were also increased, with the first issue increasing from $35 to $40. Board members reported on the positive response theyıd received to increased hours at the visitor center, which is now open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. and Sundays 1-4:30 p.m. Mayor Jean Hartbarger reminded board members of the Tuckaseigee Cooperative Stakeholders Team meeting set for Thursday, July 18, at the Duke Power offices in Franklin from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Public comment will be taken at 9 a.m., she said. |
