Wooden eagle

Sculptor

Chainsaw sculptor Fred Bauknecht, father of Fairview students Luke (third grade) and Jesse (fourth grade), spent three days at the school creating an eagle from a 6-foot-tall, 30-inch diameter piece of locally grown white pine. Fairview Principal Sue Nations asked Bauknecht to create a sculpture for the school after seeing another piece he had done. A prolific carver and wood sculptor, Bauknecht donated his time and labor to create the eagle, which is located in a garden area near Fairview's main entrance. - Herald photo by Lynn Hotaling
