School leaders recess without choosing next CVS principal

By Lynn Hotaling

After about an hour in closed session Monday (April 30), school board members recessed their meeting without naming a new principal for Cullowhee Valley School.

CVS Principal Ron Yount, who is completing his third year at the K-8 school, announced last fall that this would be his last year at the helm of the 7-year-old facility.

Superintendent Mack McCary confirmed that the CVS vacancy was one of the positions discussed during the closed session.

A number of administrators¹ contracts are up for renewal, McCary said, and those were discussed also. The superintendent said he does not expect administrative changes at schools other than Cullowhee Valley.

He had anticipated a decision Monday night, McCary said, but after board member Mary Jane Dillard became ill and left the meeting, it was decided to postpone the matter until she could be present.

The board will reconvene Monday, May 7, at 6 p.m.
