Bicycle accident sends 7-year-old to hospital

By Lynn Hotaling

A downtown accident that sent a child to the hospital has resulted in charges against two men.

Laura Lindsay, 7, of Cullowhee, was taken to Harris Regional Hospital June 20 after she was struck by a car while riding a bicycle across Main Street, said Sylva Police Chief Jeff Jamison.

Lindsay was hit while she was in the crosswalk at the intersection Main and Spring streets shortly after 8 p.m., Jamison said.

Tighe Hooper, 20, of Tuckasegee, was the driver of the vehicle that struck Lindsay. He has been charged with unsafe movement, Jamison said.

The supervising parent, Robert Lindsay of Cullowhee, was cited for failure to provide a helmet, Chief Jamison said.

Laura Lindsay was released from HRH on June 22, according to hospital spokesman Diana Woodard.
