Three file in Forest Hills; Cashiers voters to register

By Rose Hooper

No candidates had filed in the upcoming town of Sylva election by press time, but three have come forth for the Village of Forest Hills.

Mayor Jim Davis, who has held the position since December 2001, filed for re-election to another two-year term. Joe Rossano and Sue Burton, whose council positions are up for grabs, have both filed for re-election.

Sylva's and Forest Hills' non-partisan elections are set for Tuesday, Nov. 4.

Meanwhile, voters in Cashiers will vote on incorporation Aug. 12. Deadline for registration is this Friday, July 18, and Jackson County Board of Elections Director Lisa Lovedahl-Lehman will be at the Albert-Carlton Cashiers Community Library from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. to register voters.

New members for the Board of Election will be sworn in at noon Tuesday, July 22, at the Register of Deeds office. Bob Ray, who is resigning his position as chairman, will be replaced by Steve Foster. Cindy Allison Thompson will replace Tom Jones, while Britt Holcombe retains her position.
