was named Jackson County's Teacher of the Year Tuesday (Aug. 19)
during a banquet at Western Carolina University's Ramsey Center.
Superintendent Mack McCary, left, and Central Carolina Bank Assistant
Vice President Christina Shook presented Pannell with a plaque
and a $1,000 check to be used for her professional development.
CCB sponsors the annual award, and the winner is chosen by a panel
of educators and community members. This year's other school winners
were Beth Bolognia of Blue Ridge; Stephen Harrison of Cullowhee
Valley; Linda Potter of Scotts Creek; Kathy Ammons of Smokey Mountain
Elementary; and Gerald Parker of Smoky Mountain High.
