Cutting-edge gift

Emily Haskett Emily Haskett, daughter of Mark and Tammy Haskett of Sylva, gave a unique gift this past Valentine's Day when she donated her hair to Locks of Love, a non-profit organization providing hair pieces to children with medical hair loss.

"My cousin told me about Locks of Love and how most of the kids are cancer victims. I decided to get involved because I thought it might make one of them happy," said this Fairview sixth-grader.

As Sherry Danner of Artistic Hair Styles cut 11 inches of hair, the 11-year-old said she "felt really good" about her Valentine's gift.
