A Blountville, Tenn., man, charged in connection with the death of his brother, received a sentence of more than 10 years after pleading guilty to second-degree murder on Sept. 24 in Jackson County Superior Court.
Judge Ronald Payne sentenced Wallace Jason Rogers to not less than 130 nor more than 165 months. He was given credit for 175 days and was ordered to attend the DART Program. Rogers, 23, was charged with killing his brother, Cary Edwin Rogers, on April 1 in Cherokee. Cary Rogers died of stab wounds to the chest. The men were employed by J-Ton Construction Co. of Tennessee and were working on the new high-rise hotel for Harrahıs Cherokee Casino. Although the incident occurred on the Cherokee Indian Reservation, the matter was handled in state court since both men were non-Indian. |
