Construction worker killed in Friday fire

By Carey Phillips

A Highlands man was killed in a flash fire at a home construction site in the Cashiers area Friday.

Detective Jimmy Clawson of the Jackson County Sheriff's Department said 35-year-old Robby Zachary died in the incident, which was reported at 2:27 p.m.

Zachary was working on an addition being built at a Morehouse residence on Summer Hill off of Lloyd Hooper Road, Clawson said. Zachary was found in a partially enclosed concrete addition where he had been spraying a waterproofing agent. The cause of the blaze is unknown, said Cawson.

"Somehow there was an ignition that set the end of the house on fire," said Chief Randy Dillard of the Cashiers-Glenville Fire Department. "I don't know how we will ever determine what the ignition source was."

Dillard said he arrived at the same time as the ambulance service, and Zachary was already dead.
