Rescue and law enforcement personnel searched most of Tuesday (Aug. 6) before finding the body of Jose Osario Ramirez, 42, of Texas at about 5 p.m. Ramirez, who was swimming in Lake Glenville, was reported down at about 5:30 p.m. Monday. Witnesses stated Ramirez jumped in the lake but appeared to become exhausted halfway to shore. His arm went into the air, his friends said, but Ramirez never resurfaced. Glenville-Cashiers Rescue Squad was assisted by personnel from Jackson, Macon and Transylvania rescue squads, N.C. Wildlife, and the Jackson County Sheriff's Department and emergency management coordinator. The search was called off at dark Monday and resumed about 7:30 a.m. Tuesday. Ramirez's drowning is the second at a Jackson County lake in two months. Jeremy Shane Littrell, 28, of Haywood County drowned June 14 in Bear Lake - Herald photo by Steve Gray
