Western Carolina University student Nick Breedlove of Sylva took first place in The Sylva Herald's fifth annual "Mountain Spring" photography contest with "Spring on Campus," a shot of WCU¹s Alumni Tower. Breedlove, also a winner two years ago, was chosen best out of some 60 entries by contest judge Cliff Blakely of Style Street Studios in Cullowhee. Entries were displayed and winners announced during Saturday's downtown Greening Up the Mountains festival. Second-place winner is Pamela Dengler of Sylva, and Theresa Gonzalez of Cullowhee took third. Honorable mention went to Jeannie Threadgill of Whittier, Bonnie Rowe of Waynesville, Judy Quealy of Balsam and Rhonda Blanton of Franklin.
