Churches to celebrate holiday season

Several area churches have scheduled holiday programs to celebration the Christmas season. The following is a list of events planned throughout the weekend:

Friday, Dec. 21

Promise Land Baptist Church will present "Every Knee Shall Bow" at 7 p.m.


Saturday, Dec. 22

Black Mountain Baptist's play will present its annual Christmas play at 7 p.m.

Speedwell Baptist Church will present its Christmas program at 7 p.m.

Whittier Methodist Church will present its cantata titled "Song of Emmanuel" at 7 p.m. The play is under the direction of Jamie Hogue. Refreshments will be served following the program.


Sunday, Dec. 23

Unity Baptist will present its program at 7 p.m.

The Tuckaseigee Baptist Association Senior Adult Choir will not practice today.

Calvary Baptist Church will present "The Guiding Star" at 10 a.m.

Tuckasegee Baptist Church will present its musical and mini-drama "There is a Bethlehem," a Journey of Faith, at 11 a.m.

The adult choir of Scotts Creek Baptist Church will also present "There is a Bethlehem" during the 6 p.m. service. The cantata, which was created by Dave Clark and Tony Wood and arranged by Marty Hamby, brings a message of hope to the world by telling the story of Mary and Joseph's journey to Bethlehem. Jesus was the reason for this journey, and He calls each one of us to journey closer to Him. Directed by Mike Nichols, and accompanied by Ronda Woodard and Frank Berry, the featured soloists are Phil Cauley, Bill Adams and Eleanor Berry. Narrators include Pastor Rich Peoples, and Mary and Joseph will be portrayed by Keith and Donna Henry. The children's choir will also take part in this service.

New Savannah Baptist Church will host a service highlighted by candle lighting and carols at 5:30 p.m. The church is located on U.S. 441 South. For more information, call the Rev. Steve Alexander at 586-9840.

Locust Field Baptist Church will present its Christmas play, "Modern Time Prodigal Son," at 6 p.m. Webster Baptist Church will host a Christmas candlelight celebration of communion at 6 p.m. Following the communion celebration, the congregation will gather on the church steps for Christmas carols. Refreshments will be served following the caroling.

Fall Cliff Baptist Church will present its Christmas play at Jarrett Memorial Baptist Church in Dillsboro at 6:30 p.m. The name of the play is "Then Jesus Came."


Christmas Eve

Monday, Dec. 24

Cullowhee Presbyterian Church will hold a Christmas Eve service in the church sanctuary at 7 p.m. The service will consist of Scripture readings, music by several members of the congregation, and messages of hope for this Christmas season. The service will be followed by a reception for all in the church fellowship hall.

Patterson Chapel Baptist Church will present its Christmas play at 7 p.m.


Christmas Day

Tuesday, Dec. 25

Victory Baptist Church on Cowee Mountain will host a Christmas Day service at 10:30 a.m. featuring Christmas music and a brief messag from Pastor Benny Bagwell. For more information, call 586-2120.
