New, smaller billboard erected near Dillsboro

billboard A billboard (left) owned by Lamar Outdoor Advertising of Arden was erected at the intersection of U.S. 441 and Macktown Road near Dillsboro last week. The new structure, which was permitted by the Jackson County Building Inspections Department in March, is 40 feet tall with 300 square feet of available advertising space on back-to-back faces. The new structure replaces a 50-foot-tall billboard (right) with more than 1,000 square feet of advertising space that was removed in February after the N.C. Court of Appeals sided with Jackson County officials, who said the original structure violated the countyıs off-premises sign ordinance. - Herald photos
