In this 1918 photo of the Moody farm house in East LaPorte, John Moody is standing holding his granddaughter, Genevieve Moody Nicholson. On the left is his wife, Emily Wike Moody, and on the right is Eula Moody, wife of John and Emily’s son, Leon. Standing behind John are Emily’s sisters, Rhoda and Mary Wike, with Leon and Emily’s daughter Opal Lee Moody Clark. The house was built in the 1880s by Andrew and Mariah Fulbright Wike, who moved into the area from Lincoln County and had four daughters – Emily, Mary, Rhoda, and Mariah. Emily married John Moody from South Carolina; their son Leon married Eula Painter, and their daughter, Opal Lee, married Tobe Clark and inherited her grandparents house, which Clark remodeled over the years. After the Clarks’ death, the farm was passed down to their son, Michael, who sold it Legasus of North Carolina, which plans a golf course and vacation homes on the property. – Photo courtesy of Margaret Clark (top) and Herald photo by Nick Breedlove.
