Sheriff’s Office is seeking information on series of Charleys Creek Road fires

By Lynn Hotaling

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office is seeking information on a series of Canada community roadside fires.

According to Capt. Steve Lillard, the Canada Fire Department and N.C. Forest Service battled six fires along Charleys Creek Road Friday, Nov. 28.

All six brush fires appeared to be deliberately set, Lillard said. The incidents were initially fire calls, but firefighters asked the Sheriff’s Office for assistance in locating a red-and-white Chevrolet pickup truck that may have been involved, Lillard said.

Sheriff’s deputies responded but were unable to locate the vehicle, according to Lillard.

Anyone with information about the pickup is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 586-8901 or the CrimeStoppers Hotline at 631-1125.
