One injured in Nov. 25 Barkers Creek collision

By Carey Phillips

One person was taken to Mission Hospitals in Asheville following a two-vehicle wreck Nov. 25, on U.S. 74/441 in the Barkers Creek area.

Joy Ross, 33, of Canton, was transferred to Mission, but a hospital spokesman had no information Tuesday on her condition or whether she had ever been admitted as a patient.

Richard Pittman, 63, of Bryson City, sustained minor injuries and was treated at Harris Regional Hospital, according to Sgt. Murray Whisenhunt of the N.C. Highway Patrol.

A report filed by Trooper G.S. Fletcher indicated Pittman was traveling east (toward Sylva) around 6:30 a.m. when his 1998 Nissan hit the median barrier and went into the westbound lane where it struck Ross’ 1999 Chevrolet.
