Middle school wrestlers lose three road matches
Smoky Mountain’s middle school wrestling team lost three matches last week, but Coach Tony Quinn continues to be impressed with the progress the first-year program is making.
“We have four wrestlers who are 5-1,” he said. “That is pretty good for first-year wrestlers.”
Those who are off to a 4-1 start are Dillon Shuler (112), Clinton Porter (119), Jud Mork (125) and Steven Justus (145).
The Mustangs lost to Franklin 57-30 and Murphy 53-36 on Nov. 20 at Murphy.
Recording pins against Franklin were Jeffrey Medley (83), Shuler, Mork, Justus and Jared Poteet (189).
Coming up with pins against Murphy were Medley, Shuler, Porter, Justus and Poteet. Mork won by forfeit.
Shuler’s pin was in 11 seconds and was the fastest of the year, according to Quinn.
Apple Valley was a 66-30 winner on Nov. 24 at Apple Valley. SM’s victories were on pins by Shuler, Porter, Mork, Zachary Mason (135) and Justus.
