New bridge opens

102108bridgeparkfestivalc
Hundreds of supporters attended Sunday’s (Oct. 19) third annual Bridge Park Arts and Music Festival. The new pedestrian bridge, above, which spans Scotts Creek and connects Bridge Park with Poteet Park, was opened for use, and organizers formally recognized individuals and groups who donated more than $5,000 to the park project. In addition, organizers officially donated the park’s timber-frame pavilion, back left, which was erected in May, to the town of Sylva. “It was a beautiful day and we had a good turn out,” organzier Sarah Graham said. “We hope to do something like that every October. It was wonderful to see the park used for its intended purpose.” Although the festival has in the past been a fund-raiser for the pavilion, this year, more than $500 was collected for landscaping.
