Ray, Wagner medal in meet at Franklin

Smoky Mountain’s Adam Ray and Whitney Wagner both earned medals in a cross country meet last Thursday at Franklin.

Ray finished sixth among 101 runners in the men’s race with a time of 18:34. Wagner was seventh out of 100 runners for the women in 22:28.

Other SM participants for the men were Josh Seay (83rd, 24:55) and Matt Turpin (100th, 28:23).

For the Lady Mustangs, Elizabeth Hammer was 69th in 28:28 and Emily Cowan was 70th in 28:30.

Neither the men or women had enough runners to qualify for the team standings.

“The kids ran hard,” Coach Lawson Duncan said. “Josh dropped his time a lot. Adam was real pleased with his run, and Whitney ran a great race.”

He added, “The weather was beautiful, and it was a beautiful setting at Enloe Farm.”
