Lady Mustangs fall to East Henderson

East Henderson topped Smoky Mountain 25-16, 25-14, 25-18 in a Western Athletic Conference volleyball match last Thursday at the SM gym.

“We got off to a slow start in each game,” Coach Cindi Simmons said. “We bounced back in spurts, but we weren’t able to put enough runs together.”

East jumped in front 13-4 in the first game. The Lady Mustangs (5-14, 0-7) cut the gap to 16-11 after there points, including an ace, by Natasha Key, but they weren’t able to come any closer.

The Lady Eagles scored the first four points of the second game and SM never caught up. The Lady Mustangs’ best run was four points, including an ace, by Annelise Davis and Jordan Cagle’s kill making it 18-13.

SM led 7-6 in the third game after Key’s ace. East used a 9-1 run to move in front 15-8 and breezed from there.

Key led in kills with five. Katie Spiro handed out eight assists, and Davis had seven digs.

Shayla Jackson was perfect in 11 serves and was tops in service points with six. Also not missing a serve were Kayla Moore (five) and Madee Seagle (two). Team serving was 87.8 percent.
