This week’s photo is of the old Johns Creek School, which once stood on Caney Fork Road just past the mouth of Johns Creek. Built around 1925, the school was consolidated with Cullowhee in 1965. The building deteriorated over the years and was finally torn down in the early 1980s, according to Dot Conner of Sylva, who grew up on Johns Creek. The school’s bell has been refurbished and is now at the Caney Fork Community Center. (See page 3C) – Photo courtesy of Jackson County Schools
