Robbinsville rolls past Lady Mustang spikers
Robbinsville blitzed Smoky Mountain 25-12, 25-19, 25-14 in a non-conference volleyball match Sept. 3 at Robbinsville.
“It was a very disappointing loss after playing so well the night before at Tuscola,” Coach Cindi Simmons said. “We really struggled defensively.”
The Lady Mustangs (4-5) fell behind 14-2 in the first game, during which they managed just four offensive points.
SM led 11-9 in game two after Katie Spiro served five points, including two aces. Jodi Henkel’s three points, along with a kill and block by Flea Johnson, made it 15-11. The Lady Knights rallied and pulled away with the game’s final six points.
Game three was close in the early going before Robbinsville went on a 13-1 run to lead 17-5.
Spiro had five assists, and Annelise Davis put down four kills.
Spiro and Henkel both served five points. Henkel and Jordan Cagle didn’t miss in eight and seven serves, respectively. Team serving was 89.4 percent.
The Lady Mustang JVs are 4-3 after a 25-22, 27-25 loss.
“We came out flat and didn’t communicate,” Coach Nikki Toedtman said. “Bad passing and not communicating will lose a volleyball game every time.”
