Legasus forum draws crowd
Watershed Association of the Tuckaseigee River Director Roger Clapp addresses the crowd that gathered at the Tuckasegee Baptist Church Tuesday (Sept. 9) for a forum and panel discussion about Legasus Properties’ plans to locate several gated communities on Cullowhee Mountain. During the session, a panel composed of WATR representatives, Legasus officials and community members answered questions from the more than 100 people who packed the church. Most people seemed concerned with Leg-asus’ intent to construct more than 800 residences in its planned Webster Creek community, which straddles Cullowhee Mountain and will include ridgetop lots, and the impact of such development on downstream water quality. Webster Creek, which Legasus says will be part of River Rock, a collective name for its five non-contiguous gated communities, will also include two golf courses. Despite a few heated moments, Tuesday’s discussion was civil for the most part. A complete report on the forum will be included in next week’s newspaper. – Herald photo by Nick Breedlove |
