Dillsboro merchants’ annual Antiques Fair is set for Sept. 20
Antiques, crafts demonstrations, live music and a “people’s choice” contest for best vintage automobile will round out a full day of festivities during the sixth annual Dillsboro Antiques Fair on Saturday, Sept. 20.
New to the fair this year will be old-world crafts demonstrations, reflecting Dillsboro’s heritage as a handmade-crafts town.
Meanwhile, a program by historian George Frizzell of Western Carolina University will document the history of Dillsboro and the surrounding area, including period photographs.
Antiques will remain the centerpiece of the event, with organizers placing an emphasis on quality. Vendors will offer carnival glass, baskets, dough bowls, vintage jewelry, quilts, pottery and a selection of antique furniture, plus many other items from days gone by.
Another highlight will be an antique American automobile show. The vehicles will be displayed in the morning, with the people’s choice award winner leading the vintage cars and trucks on a parade through town beginning at 1:30 p.m.
The festival will also include a slate of musical entertainment led by local blues vocalist Karen “Sugar” Barnes.
A benefit auction is planned at 2 p.m. on Church Street to benefit the Monteith Farmstead.
The fair will run from 9 a.m. through 5 p.m. There is no charge for admission, and both free and paid parking will be available.
“Historic Dillsboro is the perfect backdrop for antiquing and enjoying autumn in the mountains,” said Teresa Dowd, president of the Dillsboro Merchants Association, which sponsors the event.
