Chief vetoes Harrah’s alcohol referendum - The question of alcohol sales at Harrah’s Cherokee Casino may not be going before voters now that Eastern Band of the Cherokee Indians Principal Chief Michell Hicks has vetoed the measure. 090208bridgeparkprojecttPavilion roof - A green metal roof is in place at Bridge Park’s pavilion, and Sylva town board member Sarah Graham, who spearheaded park fund-raising efforts, said that it’s great to see it so close to completion. A celebration for the new pavilion is planned Sunday, Oct. 19, as part of the third annual Bridge Park Arts and Music Festival, which will feature live music, food, and arts and crafts. Electricity still needs to be installed, and some landscaping will be done at the site after the festival, she said. School board attorney talks about bus garage agreement - School board attorney Chris Campbell gave school officials a draft of a memorandum of understanding between the county and the school board during last Tuesday’s (Aug 26) Board of Education meeting.
