Ole Mater Farm Bluegrass Festival to begin this Saturday
Beginning Saturday, June 14, and running the second Saturday of every month through October, bluegrass and bluegrass gospel groups will gather at the old tomato farm on Greens Creek Road for the Ole Mater Farm Bluegrass Festival.
Formerly the Balsam Mountain Jamboree, the event raises money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Headlining this Saturday’s event will be Honi Deaton and Dream, Curtis Blackwell and Mountain Faith, which will host all the events.
Blackwell is an acclaimed bluegrass singer and has previously performed and recorded with Charlie Moore and Bill Monroe.
Mountain Faith gospel/bluegrass band – from left, John Morgan, Summer McMahan, Brayden McMahan and Sam McMahan – will perform at all of this season’s “Ole Mater Farm” Bluegrass festivals, which benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The first event is this Saturday, June 14, from noon to 9:30 p.m. on Greens Creek. Events are set for second Saturdays, June-October.
Deaton has been nominated twice for International Bluegrass Music Association’s Female Vocalist of the Year award. Her band Dream combines traditional bluegrass with country and mountain music.
Other bands and artists scheduled to perform include Country Detour, Anita Fortner, Hwy. 107 South, the Ryeholler Boys and more.
Balsam Mountain Jamboree founder Terry Crisp will be the master of ceremonies.
The afternoon will also feature traditional clogging, and children will be invited onstage to sing gospel hymns.
Admission to the festival is $10 per person, with children 13 and younger free. The event will run from noon to 9:30 p.m. Concessions will be available. No drugs or alcohol will be allowed on the premises.
