N. Henderson edges SM in WAC soccer

North Henderson defeated Smoky Mountain 2-1 in Western Athletic Conference soccer action last Thursday at North.

Sarah Newbold scored the goal for the Lady Mustangs (3-11, 3-5) on a breakaway in the first half.

“We played a solid, consistent game against a very good North team,” Coach Carolyn Warhaftig said. “Unfortunately, we were unable to capitalize on our opportunities, and I’ll give a lot of credit to their sweeper and goalkeeper. They’re excellent players and kept us out of the net. Both goals we gave up were earned. They were two well-hit and well-placed shots.”

North won the JV game 1-0 dropping SM to 5-6.
