Lady Rams topple SM in non-conference play

Roberson bounced back from its first loss of the softball season the previous day with a 7-1 non-conference win over Smoky Mountain on April 23 at Webster.

Kaitlin Ramsey took a no-hitter into the sixth and finished with a two-hitter.

“We played a good team, and you aren’t going to beat a good team with two hits,” Coach Tony Quinn said. “We had 12 strikeouts. We were swinging at garbage.”

The Lady Rams scored the game’s first run in the third on a bases-loaded walk to Jordan Critcher.

An error helped lead to three runs in the fourth making it 4-0.

The Lady Mustangs committed three errors in the sixth when Roberson scored three times to go up 7-0.

Cassie Randall broke up the no-hitter when she tripled with two out in the sixth. Randall injured her ankle on the play and left the game. Kelly Lossiah followed with an RBI single.

Trish Brooks limited the hard-hitting Lady Rams to four hits.

Roberson made up for the lack of hitting by taking advantage of eight walks and four errors. Quinn noted just one of the hits was solid.

Roberson won the JV game 22-9.

“Our hitting was fantastic,” Coach Shawn Blanton said. “We had a very strong fourth inning and got within 12-9. Everyone in the lineup had a hit.”

He singled out Ginny Lawson, Megan Davis and Kelcey Crowe for their hitting.
