Edna Lewis turns 105
A large number of friends and family showed up to celebrate the 105th birthday of Edna Lewis, center, on Wednesday, April 23, at Webster Baptist Church. Those who celebrated included, from left, Sarah Mathews, Mary Beth Carter, Lewis’ daughter Carolyn Buchanan, who is holding Lewis’ dog Ellie, Lynsey Youmans, Austin DeRico, Webster Baptist Church Pastor Scott Carter and Brian Koonts. “It all went real well,” Buchanan said of the evening. “You couldn’t ask for anything nicer.” Lewis was born April 21, 1903 and graduated from Webster High School in 1920 and was married to Ernest Lewis, who died in 1967. She has three children – Buchanan of Sylva, Duane Lewis of Winston-Salem and the late T.C. Lewis – seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. – Herald photo by Stephanie Salmons |
